Much love goes out to all those featured and everyone who contributed! I think by this point I have put out most of my footage that didn’t get released thus far, I certainly don’t have enough footage to make another compilation video especially given the limitations of the lockdown. What I mean to say is that I, peanut butter, gratefully present to yous all my latest compilation video and the final one until such time as the epidemic dies down a bit!
First to pop up is one of my favorite clips, Ontario heavy hitter Dan Romano and his band Ancient Shapes played Lees. This was some years back, which made this clip particularly hard to get, and because of the filter I have no way of finding the original color version>_<‘… Ancient Shapes are throwback revival punk rock, some mosey style power pop. Real quality here, and very palatable. Refreshingly energetic, there’s lots to love from Ancient Shapes. Definitely keep an eye out for Daniel Romano’s solo work too, he just released a shit ton of awesome releases since the lockdown.
Pioneer Anomaly play their single division state for compilation 3, big ups to front man Ben for getting me some time in their jam space whole the rehearse. Some alternative psychedelic rock, I really dig how much content they release and how clean and refined their sound is. Their live performances are awesome(see PG 21&22 of VOL 3 HERE). Worth a listen if you’re into industrial post rock vibes!
Clay reads their Bouqet Of Flowers poem at the Art Bar, what was an open mic at Free Times Café. My friend Leah Liora Cohen also reads one of her poems as well in this video. Both of them are amazing writers, it was so great to hear some of their works and was super eager to share it with yous all.
MVCKRO was down to rip some acapella for the compilation, such a great rapper here. He appears in 20scene twice(see VOL 3 PG 25&26 / VOL 4 PG 31&32 HERE). Humble AF and on some new school shit, Mvckro only drops fire as far as I’m concerned. Stoked to get a Toronto rapper hyping out the video with some fly verses from a yet to be released track so peep this shit yo.
Hard Luck Bar hosted a couple of bands that appear in the compilation, namely RANDOM KILLING and KOFFIN KATS. This show appeared in 20scene as well: see VOL 3 PG 9&10 HERE. Seeing all those sick bands in one room was crazy, it was so rad. Random Killing have been punk playing for 30 some odd years and still have fun on stage doing what they love, so thankful I got the chance to see them a couple of times(see VOL 3 PG 23&24 HERE. Koffin Kats were in from the states, I really love the vocal work. Their front man is fucking intense, don’t miss this band if you have the chance to catch a show.
Big ups to my buddy George RIVARD(my apologies Georgie I fumbled your last name in the video), such an awesome comedian. I asked him to throw around some jokes in the alley and he was down so voila! JOCK, LOSERS, and WROT played the basement of Euro Sports Bar down on lansdowne street. Three fucking gnarly bands. Jock plays some tuffguy hardcore out from London Ontario, easily one of my favorite bands(see VOL 1 PG 23&24 / VOL 2 PG 5&6 HERE). Wrot and Losers has a split release this night called “OUT OF BOUNDS”, really fucking impressive. Both of them play some noise rock/post punk vibes, they really vibe well together, that release was awesome. Saw them both play together for the first time a while back: see VOL 1 PG 15&16 HERE). It’s great to shine some light on these super awesome and locally influential bands.
GOUGE OUT. Decided to throw in some footage of the jam session in Nate’s jam room I covered a while back that made it into compilation 2 AKA “7 minutes in heaven”(SEE HERE). This 3 piece is fucking gnarly, some real heavy hardcore that mixes mathcore and metalcore for some really dark and awesome sounds. They appeared alongside some sick bands in previous 20scene volumes: see VOL 4 PG 35&36 / VOL 5 PG 3&4 HERE. Big ups to front man Nate and drummer Ben for being such great dudes, Gouge out is coming out with some new shit so definately look them up they post their music everywhere(literally no joke even on napster!!1!XD).
Joshua Bouchard reads a poem of his at the Poetry Is Dead book release. Poetry Is dead is a writers collective with a sick poetry magazine going, definitely check their website!(LINK HERE). This reading was held at knife | fork | book a poetry only book store, the interesting ceiling art was a display for a work/chapbook titled: “the sky is falling”, by Jessica Hiemstra. k | f | b is always doing cool shit like zoom poetry readings etc…
