VOLUME #4
OMG LAST POST OF VOLUME 4–things might change slightly from here on out–I love yous all!
Ol’ peanut butter over here had a great time at this one. The scene was hot as shit by this point, ya boy was handing out mad zines to the bands covered in volumes 1-3. This show was sick; saw some friends throughout the night, met this random Russian straight edge kid who showed me some sick footage from the festivals they have out there, I even exchanged some zines with the vocalist for Raze for a long sleeve which was mad dope. Just before the ‘rona struck there were so many shows to choose from, real stoked I chose this line up.
Enforced fucking destroyed see-scape, people were mad digging the thrash metal this band has to offer. At one point a circle pit opened up which was impressive given they played early on. Nice of them to bring some crossover thrash up to the great white north all the way from Richmond Virginia, we love that shit up here. I have yet to hear a song by this band that I don’t dig, all the squealy guitar moans and diverse drum parts are rad as fuck. At The Walls is a fucking killer album, 9 songs in 26 minutes and absolute shredage the whole time. Much thanks for rocking out in the t dot!
Red Death. Woah. Seriously, what a fucking crazy set. I caught a decent clip them doing a gnarly beat break/bass solo, it was all I could do given the floor was fucking crazy and packed to shit. Around since 2013, this 4 instrument line up packs a hardcore punch that shakes the room. More heavy than melodic, and hitting hard with high intensity, DC sent out some exceptional vibes here for any mosh kid who wants to shit their pants in a frenzy of proper metal. I rate this band, would see again live if I could.
Raze are so sick. A bit more melodic than the prior bands, real chilled out homie vibes from this line up. Easily one of my favorite Toronto bands, their vocalist was giving out excerpts from a Michael Lebowitz book for free at the merch table. This reminded me of when I saw mil-spec at the same joint (much love goes out to SEE-SCAPE SCI-FI BAR & CAFE) a few months back and got their drummer’s poetry chapbook “Perennial Fields”, ALL MY FAVORITE HARDCORE BANDS LIKE PRINT MEDIA. That said, if you’re looking for some mildly politico-hardcore with sick flow and rhythm go no further. Decently catchy riffs, nice breakdowns, killer vox; like I said: so sick. On High In Green Tomorrows speaks for itself, if you’re a hardcore punk fan definitely give it a listen.
Sinner go in. Fucking crazy band. We love this band here at 20scene, they show up twice in Volume 4 alone. Shout outs to Phill and his awesome bandmates there, they did a really spooky Halloween live stream at the end of October. This band is so hype they have online skins for the game animal crossing going, when I say hardworking I mean it. Sinner reminds me of the band Nile in a lot of ways, some of their guitar parts have an almost eastern sounding tone to them which is sort of similar; not to mention the solos. To hear what i’m talking about give a good listen to the song Wrought from the album In Filth. I love this band, so much sick content to float around in. I know that blackened metal is an acquired taste for some people, Sinner does it good though. Seriously Vince McMahon needs to get these guys doing wrestler themes, I mean half the time vocalist Phill looks like a backyard brawler. I feel like worse bands have made that money, just ol’ peanut butter’s honest opinion over here haha^.^’
So yeah, that’s the way folks. Here’s some links:
