Matt Ellis–the man, the myth, the phenom–from rose city all the way to the hammer, this dude stomped the shit out of Ontario. Countless bands, side projects, whatever you wanna call it hombre stays busy my friends. Me and this dude go way back, he was older brother to one of my good buddies and somehow always cool enough to let ol’ intoxicated peanut butter crash out on his couch back in my wilder days. Always ahead of the curve, Ellis played in a punk band in high school with one of my favorite human beings, burger from TV FREAKS, they called themselves the DELI-BOYS(potentially the first true to form punk band I saw live). It was at a lions club in and around Niagara, burg played a sick ass beast and they threw deli meats at us that I caught a slice of and then from which proceeded to take a holy punk rock sacrament unto my body. The Deli-Boys according to Matt, “would turn into ‘Bored To Death’ who would then morph into ‘Rocket Reducers'” and started as a joke to perform in the GG Allin tribute festival “SCUMFUC FEST”. The bologna was just as sweet as this interview my friends, read, enjoy.
For those who followed 20scene from early on, in recent years ya boy did get a chance to see Matt playing for The Vapids(LINK TO VOL 2 PG 23&24 HERE!). Such a sick band.
Full Moon Fever is out now, tons of Matt’s solo work on the go! That aside, I could do a whole update on Flesh Rag alone, they had a sick video for their track “I’m Sick” (LINK HERE) which really tripped me out heavy a few years back and helped encourage me to hit up shows and see what’s out there. I love that band. The list goes on with Ellis though, he plays bass in Harbour Rats, and as mentioned earlier, Guitar in Rocket Reducers. Let me make this 100% clear all of these bands are punk, this guy eat sleeps and drinks leather and studs.
Big ups to loose lips records for publishing a lot of the bands I’m gonna link to. Seeing my dude do so well and work so hard makes me super stoked, yes yes yes, there is hope for those who love punk.
